114 children finished Harlow junior parkrun in Town Park on Sunday 4 October. That is the event’s biggest field for more than nine years.

Only one Sunday has ever been busier: 119 finishers on 11 June 2017. The 4 October run also beat the 110 who turned out for the very first event in July 2016. The figures are on parkrun’s own Harlow junior parkrun event history.

It was event number 442, and 22 volunteers made it happen. The following Sunday, 11 October, 85 children ran.

The bigger story is the whole year

One busy Sunday can be a one-off. The steadier sign is the weekly average, and that has nearly doubled in four years.

How to take part

The event’s own page sets out the basics:

  • When: every Sunday at 9am
  • Where: Harlow Town Park, CM20 2QG
  • Distance: 2km, for children aged 4 to 14
  • Cost: free, but register once with parkrun first and bring a scannable barcode, or there is no time recorded
  • Pace: any. Walking is fine

Like every parkrun, it is run entirely by volunteers. The team asks anyone who can help to email harlowjuniors@parkrun.com.

What it means for you

If you have a child aged 4 to 14, this is a free, timed run every week in the middle of town. Busier Sundays mean a bigger start, so it is worth arriving a few minutes early. Adults looking for their own run will find the 5km Saturday events listed on parkrun’s site.
